In February 2013, the City Municipality of Ljubljana deployed a public wireless network called WiFree Ljubljana. The network, covering Ljubljana city centre, allows visitors and residents to use free wireless internet for up to 60 minutes a day. Visitors to Ljubljana who hold a Ljubljana Tourist Card have a free 24-hour internet access via the WiFree Ljubljana network.
The WiFree Ljubljana broadband network, set up by the City Municipality of Ljubljana in collaboration with two private sector partners, the companies Telekom Slovenije and NIL, is a huge gain for both visitors to Ljubljana and the local residents.
At the moment, the WiFree Ljubljana network consists of 79 access points. Many more access points are planned to be gradually deployed in the future in order to expand the network to cover the entire Ljubljana area.
